Three major pieces of legislation affecting real estate passed this week and are headed to California Governor Gavin Newsom for signing, or veto. AB1482: California moves towards statewide rent control. The legislation caps annual rent increases at 5%, plus inflation and also requires landlords to show "just cause"in the eviction of long term tenants. AB1487: Allows for a Bay Area Regional ballot measure to raise money for affordable housing. And SB330: Would prevent communities from enacting legislation designed to slow growth. It would also speed up the permitting process. For a great rundown of this and other end-of-term legislation, KQED’s California Report has more info on it here.
